Household Waste Recycling Centre Car Permit Scheme

For use at Newtown Road and Padworth Lane Household Waste Recycling Centres

We have operated a permit system since September 2016 to prevent the illegal deposit of commercial or trade waste at the sites. We also feel that it is unfair to ask West Berkshire Council tax payers to fund a service for residents living in other Local Authority areas.

We are introducing a new online registration scheme which will replace the current paper permits over the next few months.

Your household will be able to register for an online permit from the 30 November 2021 via the Council's My Account service.

Proof of address and paper permits, including green car permits that have already expired, will continue to be accepted until 28 February 2022 to give you enough time to register for an online permit.

We are only changing how we issue permits to access our Household Waste Recycling Centres. We are not changing the rules around which vehicles qualify for which type of permit, or the criteria to qualify for a commercial type vehicle permit, which you can read in our Icon for pdf Household Waste Recycling Centres - User Guide [892.69KB] .

You still need to book an appointment before you visit.

We still only accept Household Waste

You can read more information on the change here.

The car permit allows each West Berkshire household to register up to three cars, as discribed in our Icon for pdf Household Waste Recycling Centres - User Guide [892.69KB] , to access the Councils Houshold Waste Recycling Centres.

These are typically vehicles registered with the DVLA as a passenger vehicle with no more than 8 seats in addition to the drivers seat (M1) as discribed in our Icon for pdf Household Waste Recycling Centres - User Guide [892.69KB] .

There are no restrictions on how frequently you can visit our centres using a car permit, however we do advise that you make the most out of each visit to minimise the number of journeys you make to our centres. We have produced a map of Icon for pdf Newtown Road [5.08MB]  and Icon for pdf Padworth Lane [7.71MB]  to assist you loading your car before you visit.

You still need to book an appointment before you visit.

If your vehicle does not fall into this catagory you may be eligible for a commercial type vehicle permit or temporary one day pass.
