Housing Benefit Appeals

Appealing against a benefit award decision

If you disagree with our decision regarding your entitlement to Housing Benefit, you can ask us to look at it again.

If you require more detailed information regarding the circumstances which have influenced the calculation of your benefit, please contact us to ask for a 'statement of reasons'.

In order to request a statement of reasons, or to ask for a decision to be reconsidered, you should contact us in writing within one month of the date of our decision notice. You can use our Icon for doc Housing Benefit appeals form [25KB]  to tell us what you think is wrong and why. Any relevant supporting evidence (such as letters from your GP or employer) will help to demonstrate your reasons for requesting a reconsideration.

We will write to you letting you know the outcome of your request, and what happens next.
