Get started with care and support for adults
Our Adult Social Care service helps people aged 18 and over living in West Berkshire with care and support needs. The video below explains what Adult Social Care is and what we do.
Our Adult Social Care customer charter explains how we will work with you. You may find the jargon buster by Think Local Act Personal useful, to explain the words we use in social care.
How we help
Our role is to help our residents stay healthy, active, and independent. We may be able to help you with:
- information and advice: signposting to local services and support options
- assistive technology and equipment: arranging tools to help you manage independently
- occupational therapy: support to improve your ability to perform daily activities
- reablement and short-term support: help to regain independence after a setback or hospital stay
- care at home: arranging home care to help with daily living, or home adaptations
- community and day centres: social and support services
- housing-related support: options like extra care housing, supported living, shared lives, or care homes
We'll offer you a care and support needs assessment. We'll discuss your strengths, needs, support from community resources, family or carers, and eligibility for support from the council.
