Advice for new refugees: what you can do whilst waiting for your decision
If you are waiting for the government to make a decision on your asylum application, you can:
- register at a doctors surgery (GP) and make an appointment to discuss any physical or mental health needs
- open a bank account
- start to improve your English language
- volunteer
- write a CV (you can also get support from West Berkshire Action for Refugees)
- read through the advice on these pages so you are prepared
If you have received your Leave to Remain, you can:
- open a bank account
- claim benefits
- look for housing
- look for a job
- enrol on an English Language course or improve other skills
