To assist the Curator and Heritage Access Assistant in undertaking research into specific areas of the collection

Role overview

To assist the Curator and Heritage Access Assistant in undertaking research into specific areas of the collection. This will help build knowledge and understanding of the collection and enable the museum to find new and exciting ways to engage the public with local heritage.

Tasks include (but are not limited to):

 -  Using the museum collections database
 -  Consulting museum paper files and archives
 -  Visiting local library and records offices if necessary
 -  Online searching
 -  Viewing objects when necessary

 

What do I need to get involved?

This opportunity would suit someone who has the ability: 
 -  Enthusiasm for museums and involvement by all parts of our community
 -  Particular interest and experience of research based work 
 -  Good IT skills
 -  Experience in databases preferred, but training will be given
 -  Organised, reliable and a good timekeeper
 -  Excellent spoken and written English

Training and support

We make sure our volunteers have a full induction and training and we'll explain our health and safety procedures.

Time commitment

We are looking for volunteers in a long-term commitment as this makes for a more reliable service for our customers. The role would be 1 day per week.

Location

 It can be based at the museum, museum stores, library or home.
