Home and Hospital Tuition
Providing education for pupils who are unable to attend school for medical reasons
The Home Education Service provides education for those pupils who are:
- unable to attend school because of short-term medical needs
- pregnant
- receiving regular (recurring admissions) or long-term treatment in hospital
Pupils can be referred to our service through several different routes, for example:
- through a member of staff from school - this may be a class teacher, head of year, special educational needs co-ordinator (SENCO) or the person who has responsibility for a child with medical needs (in a primary school, the head teacher or class teacher may make the referral)
- through hospitals - they may refer school-aged patients who will need to be absent from school following treatment
- through the Child and Adolescent Mental Health Service (CAMHs) - they may refer pupils who have mental health problems which prevent them from attending school
If you are concerned that a referral has not been made for your child, please contact your child's school directly in the first instance.
