A consultation took place between December 2020 and February 2021 to seek the views of residents of the three Berkshire West Local Authorities (Reading, West Berkshire and Wokingham) on eleven potential priorities identified through prior engagement with health and social care professionals.

Residents were invited to select their top priorities, those that were the most important to their and their family's health, to form the foundation of a Health and Wellbeing Strategy (HWBS).

The consultation received just under 4,000 responses from across the three Berkshire West local authorities. We also held 18 focus groups with different members of our community. You can view&nbsp.

How we developed the draft strategy

We considered the feedback from the earlier consultation, and used the top five priorities identified by residents as the backbone of our Icon for pdf draft strategy [13.98MB] , which sets out how health and social care professionals, together with other partners, will work to improve the health of people living in Berkshire West over the next ten years.  The priorities are:

  1. Reduce the differences in health between different groups of people
  2. Support individuals at high risk of bad health outcomes to live healthy lives
  3. Help children and families in early years
  4. Promote good mental health and wellbeing for all children and young people
  5. Promote good mental health and wellbeing for all adults

What happens next

Your feedback will be taken into consideration, and used to finalise the strategy, which will be submitted to the three Local Authority Health and Wellbeing Boards for consideration and approval.

Once approved, the strategy will be published in autumn 2021 on each of the local authorities' websites.  For West Berkshire residents, you'll find it on our Strategies, Policies and Plans webpage.

What you told us

The public engagement consisted of focus group discussions and an online public survey. Through these, we asked about the importance of 11 potential priorities for helping residents and their community live happier and healthier lives.

A total of 3,967 responses were received via the online public consultation survey. Regionally, most respondents were from Wokingham (39.5%), jointly followed by Reading (30.3%), and West Berkshire (30.3%). The majority of respondents provided feedback as individual respondents, with a small proportion responding on behalf of an organisation (158 responses).

Public feedback was largely supportive of the proposed priorities. You can view the full public engagement report online.

What we did

All the feedback we received has been used to inform the final version of the Strategy, which was approved by the Health and Wellbeing Board on Thursday, 9 December 2021. You can view the final document on our Strategies, Policies, and Plans page.
