New mini recycling centre opens in Tilehurst
In partnership with our waste contractor Veolia, we have opened another new mini recycling centre in the district.

The new site is located in Tilehurst at Cotswold Sports Centre, Downs Way, RG31 6SL.
The mini recycling centre will have banks for:
- plastic pots, tubs, trays and cans
- small electricals
- paper and cardboard
- food and drink cartons (including paper tubes with metal ends)
- textiles
This new facility will bring the total number of our mini recycling centres to nine and will complement the services available at our two large household waste recycling centres (HWRCs) located at Padworth and Newtown Road in Newbury. This mini facility has arrived just in time for the busy Christmas period when we know a lot more recyclable waste is generated by residents.
Residents are reminded to only place the correct items in the banks for recycling and not to leave bags of recycling/rubbish next to the banks.
Councillor Steve Ardagh-Walter, Executive Member for Environment and Transformation at West Berkshire Council, said:
"We are really pleased to be offering yet another mini recycling centre this year for residents of West Berkshire, making it more convenient to recycle a wider variety of items.
"I would like to thank Tilehurst Parish Council for their assistance in securing this space. We hope this site in Tilehurst is well received by our residents as we continue to strive for a greener West Berkshire."
In wider recycling news, the Council is also pleased to report that the new Community RePaint scheme is now fully operational from our HWRC in Padworth as well as our site at Newtown Road. Community RePaint allows residents to drop off paint at either of our HWRCs in the usual way. Staff at the HWRC will assess the paint and see if it is in a good enough condition to be re-used. This will then be available for residents to take free of charge.
Dave Matthews, General Manager at Veolia, said:
''We're delighted to add another mini recycling centre (MRC) and provide more opportunities to recycle to the residents of Tilehurst and the surrounding area.
''Veolia is also very excited to be extending the RePaint program to Padworth HWRC alongside the facility at Newtown Road in Newbury. This is a massive opportunity for residents and local community groups to reduce their carbon footprint, as well as potentially save towards any remodelling of household spaces or community spaces.
"We now hold large stocks of the basic colours (white / creams) in emulsion and undercoat but can also offer gloss and eggshell paints in a huge range of colours. Our site staff will be very pleased to help you choose and load your FREE paint when you visit.''
