West Berkshire Council's annual Giving Tree campaign to support victims of domestic abuse and their families over Christmas is now open to receive donations.

We've teamed up with local domestic abuse services to bring Christmas to those in need. It's a time for giving and the Giving Tree provides everyone with an opportunity to share their Christmas spirit by donating a gift to a child or adult who has been affected by domestic abuse.

Graham Bridgman, West Berkshire Council's Deputy Leader and Executive Member for Health and Wellbeing says,

"The generosity we see from local people continues to grow each year but sadly, so does the number of people in need. With the rise in the cost of living affecting so many, it's even more important for us all to work together to bring a little joy wherever we can.

"Each and every present gives victims of domestic abuse in West Berkshire hope for a better Christmas. It's really easy to take part in this act of kindness and quite often what the Giving Tree provides will be the only gift someone will receive this year.

"People often have to leave everything behind when going into a Refuge in order to protect themselves and their children - children may have to leave their toys behind as well as their friends and family. Your generosity gives families something positive at a time of great stress and upheaval."

You can get involved in the gift of giving online or in person and all labels will contain anonymised information on the person you will be buying for, for example 'Girl aged 3' or 'Man aged 34'.

In person, you can select a label from one of the libraries in Newbury, Hungerford or Theale, or at the Council Offices in Market Street, Newbury. You can buy a corresponding gift and drop it back to where the label was collected, or at one of our other locations if easier.

Alternatively you can select a gift recipient via the booking platform on our website (see below), then purchase your gift online to be delivered to our Market Street Council Offices.

The Giving Tree brings everyone in West Berkshire together at a time of upheaval with hundreds of presents being delivered by Santa's helpers ready for Christmas day.

The Giving Tree will be open for donations from Tuesday 8 November to Tuesday 6 December.
