Buses continue to provide a cost-effective travel solution and we've made some great improvements for family and group travel.

So, if you fancy getting out and about over the summer, why not use the bus to get there?

From 1 August, we introduced a new Connect Group Day Ticket for up to 4 people to travel together on the bus.

This can be any combination of adults and/or children. As with most Connect tickets, there are two types available:

·       £10.00 for an Urban ticket

·       £16.50 for a Rural ticket

For even better value, until 4 September the Rural ticket will only cost £15.00.

Find out more about both tickets at https://www.westberks.gov.uk/connect

Councillor Richard Somner, West Berkshire's Executive Member for Planning, Transport and Countryside says,

"Buses are a great, fuss free way to travel as a family and beat the traffic jams rather than add to them. We continue to work closely with our transport partners to develop our opportunities for residents and visitors to West Berkshire. Our new Connect Group Ticket makes it not only a sustainable choice, but an affordable one too. "

Robert Williams, CEO of Reading Buses says,

"We are pleased to be introducing West Berkshire Council's new Connect group day tickets, complementing the popular group tickets we offer in other areas. These will be the first group tickets offered by Newbury & District. Urban and rural versions are available to purchase either on-bus or through our Newbury & District mobile app, where customers can also plan their journeys, check timetables, and get real time departure information."

Contactless payments (including Apple Pay or Google Play) are now available on services operated by West Berkshire Council Transport Services: 5, 5a, 5c, 41, 44, 47. Contactless has already been available on services operated by Reading Buses, Newbury & District and many other local bus operators for some time. Payments can still be made by cash when boarding the bus.

Other improvements made to the Connect buses (services 5, 5a, 5c, 41, 44, and 47) are:

·       Service 5 to/from Brightwalton now operates throughout the year (not just schooldays)

·       Service 47 has an additional afternoon journey from Lambourn on Saturdays and school holidays
