End of Week 53
Last week saw the completion of some of the final stages of the scheme.
The remaining sections of the central reservation were completed, and finished up to the surface course. The underground infrastructure has been finished for the new traffic lights, ready for the cables to be pulled through the ducting, ready for the lights themselves to be erected.
The final stages of the carriageway construction were also completed, which is the surface course. The surface course is the layer of road that provides grip and a smooth surface to drive on. This has now been laid across the whole scheme, including the new link road.
The paving machine is fed tarmac from tipper lorries, which is then fed through the paver. The paver then spreads the tarmac to the desired thickness and angle for that section of carriageway.
The material is then compacted using a roller.
The final tarmac layer has now been laid.
Activities on site next week:
- Preparing of traffic light infrastructure
- Preparing for the road lining to be completed
