West Berkshire Museum and Shaw House to reopen to the public in late May

West Berkshire Council has announced the wonderful news that West Berkshire Museum and Shaw House will be reopening to the public in May 2021, pending the confirmation of Step 3 in the easing of Government restrictions.
West Berkshire Museum will reopen on Wednesday 19 May and will then be open every Wednesday to Saturday, 10am - 4pm. The Museum staff may ask you to queue at the designated entrance and there will be a separate exit. You will be directed along the one-way system where you can visit all of the galleries.
The Museum will open with a new community-led exhibition 'Together' which explores the courtship and matrimonial traditions of some of the people living in West Berkshire from diverse cultural backgrounds. Visitors will also be able to enjoy some of the longer running exhibitions including 'The Stories We Tell' which looks into folk tales and the historical relationship between fact and fiction and 'A Focus on Pangbourne' which explores the history and archaeology of the region through objects from the Museum collection and loans from the local community.
The gift shop, accessible toilet and baby changing facilities will be open, but the café and standard toilets will be closed for the time being.

Shaw House will reopen for visits to the House and grounds on Saturday 29 May and will then be open every weekend* until Sunday 26 September, 11am - 4pm and every Monday to Friday during school holidays from 10am - 4pm.
The staff may ask you to queue to get in to the building and you will be directed along the one-way system which runs throughout the House where you can visit the new exhibition 'Dressed for Shaw' and discover the history of Shaw House through period costume displays along with the 'Dressed for Battle' civil war exhibition to see surviving examples of arms and armour from the Littlecote House collection which is currently on loan from the Royal Armouries Museum.
Visitors can also enjoy the Open Air Sculpture Exhibition from Saturday 29 May - Sunday 27 June, 11am - 4pm on the Orangery Lawn at Shaw House. Sculptures will be well spaced apart to allow social distancing in the ground and all works on display will be available for purchase.
The toilets and shop will be open, along with the café which will be running a take-out service - indoor seating will not be available, but there are plenty of picnic tables outside.
