Newbury Station Road Improvements

The Station Road improvements will change the way all users currently access the south side of Newbury Station

Newbury Station Road Improvements

There will be the creation of a block paved area in front of the station building to allow the public to move freely as well as a number of seating areas so as anyone waiting for a taxi or who just wants to sit down for a few minutes can now do so. Opposite the station the footway will be widened and revisions made to the parking area. There will also be a formalised crossing point to the front of the station to enable users to safely cross the carriageway.

The scheme will look to keep vehicle speeds low through the narrowing of the existing carriageway and the addition of speed humps. Other improvements include a lengthened bus stopping area to accommodate three buses and fully revised surface water drainage and street lighting infrastructure.

This project is funded by the Local Growth Fund via Thames Valley Berkshire Local Enterprise Partnership. It is part of the wider Newbury Railway Station Improvement and Interchange Enhancement Scheme led by West Berkshire Council and GWR. As part of the wider improvements GWR will be developing some business units to the south of the station alongside the Station Road works. There will be close liaison between contractors and access to the station will be kept available throughout.

The timescale for this scheme is seven months and works are due to start on 26 September 2022.
