Youth Services
The aim of West Berkshire's Youth Service is to provide opportunities for young people to voluntarily engage in activities that are challenging, supportive and exciting, enabling them to become empowered individuals; learning and responding to change
The Youth Service offers an extensive range of activities and opportunities for young people aged between 13 - 19 years across West Berkshire. The service is organised into 3 Area Teams - West, Central and East Area Teams and The Youth Activities Team.
Each area has a team of professional youth workers who develop programmes in response to the needs of young people in their community. The area teams are based in youth centres owned and managed by West Berkshire Council, from which they develop opportunities for young people such as: Youth clubs, informal drop-in facilities, detached work (with young people wherever they choose to meet), mobile work in communities where no suitable facilities for young people exist.
Young people can also participate in outdoor expeditions, residential activities, water and land based programmes run by highly qualified staff based in centres across West Berkshire. All Activity programmes are operated in accordance with the Adventurous Activities Authority Licensing (AALA) Standards.
The Duke of Edinburgh's Award is managed by the Council and it consists of a challenging programme of activities which will help young people learn new skills, help others and experience adventure. The outcome for participants is one of a great sense of achievement - whether they gain a Bronze, Silver or Gold Award.
