YOUTH OPPORTUNITY AND YOUTH CAPITAL FUND

Young People can apply to these funds to support the development of youth projects in their communities.

~~~~ GRANTS FOR YOUNG PEOPLE ~~~ BY YOUNG PEOPLE ~~~~
The Department of Education and Skills has provided money called the Youth Opportunity Fund and Youth Capital Fund to improve things to do and places to go in West Berkshire.
CAN YOU AND YOUR FRIENDS HELP SPEND £150,000?
Do you or your friends have an idea for a project to make the  area you live in more Young People friendly?
Have you seen an activity or project in another area that you would like to do?
If so, you will need to be linked or affiliated to a local organisation/group, like one of the following or a recognised association:-
  • Local Groups i.e.
    • Churches
    • Scouts
    • Youth Service
    • Youth Club
    • Boys Brigade
    • Schools
    • Dyspraxia Group
    • etc.
  •   If you don't belong to one, contact the local area youth teams with your idea's and they will be able to help you.
What you can use the money for:-
  • Increase things to do and places to go in line with what young people want
  • Let young people, particularly those that are disadvantaged, influence things to do and places to go, and to let them know that what they need and hope for is important
  • Provide opportunities for young people to develop confidence, knowledge, skills and abilities
  • Increase the responsiveness of providers to what young people are asking for
  • Increase young peoples engagement with services and with the democratic process
There are some conditions that come with the money and these are:~
  • Use of the fund must be determined by young people, providing activities and facilities
  • Appropriate support must be given to young people involved at all levels, setting up and running panels, training young people, completing paperwork and leading projects.
  • Information must be given to the Government Office (South East) showing activities and capital projects financed by the funds (any projects receiving money must provide this information)
  • Evidence must be collected to show how young people are using the funds and the impact the funds have had on facilities and activities for young people.
  • Please note that if your bid application is over £10,000, young people must be prepared to give a presentation to the panel.
