Older People

Older People's services provide support to adults aged 65 and over, with the aim of maintaining independence and wellbeing.

Older People

West Berkshire Council's Older People's services are split into three services:

Care Management and Commissioning
Providing help and support in planning future care needs if someone is at risk of losing their independence or wellbeing.

Longer Term Care
This is the provision of care homes and day services managed by West Berkshire Council providing accommodation, support and care to the frail and elderly, including specialist services for dementia.

Promoting Independence
Intermediate Care and Home Care that provide rehabilitation and support to older people in either their own homes or other care settings, to permit safe hospital discharge, respond to crisis situations and prevent inappropriate hospital admission.

The following pages give information about these services and a variety of support options that are available through the voluntary and independent sector and health services.

If you have been ill or injured you may need help to manage at home when you are ready to leave hospital, or even avoid admission to hospital altogether.

Most people prefer to stay living in their own home surrounded by familiar things and familiar faces.

Health and medical advice

A carer looks after a person who would not be able to stay in their own home without their help. They are unpaid and act voluntarily. It is important that carers are aware that there are services available to them offering advice and support. This link will take you to the Carers section of this website.
