► An exhibition celebrating 200 years of the Kennet & Avon Canal.
Staff and volunteers at the Museum in Newbury are busy preparing for their next special exhibition on West Berkshire waterways, which opens on Saturday 24th July and runs until Thursday 30th September. The exhibition is timed to coincide with the 200th anniversary of the opening of the Kennet & Avon Canal, but will also make reference to the earlier Kennet Navigation and the River Thames.

Arquiem tells the chilling tale of a boy who murders his love to preserve one moment for ever. With live music, stilts, pyrotechnics, acrobatics and beautifully crafted mobile structures, Arquiem is a powerful promenade performance inspired by William Blake's Songs of Innocence and Experience and Robert Browning's poem Porphyria's Lover. Performance starts at 8.30pm

Come along to this great day out and meet officers from the specialist departments and the police helicopter manned by the Chiltern Air Support Unit. You will be able to see police officers carrying out demonstrations with the force's dogs and the Thames Valley Police Museum will also be open so you can have a look at how the force has developed over the years. If you are interested in becoming a police officer or police community support officer, or just want some safety tips, there will be someone on hand to answer your questions.

Cold Ash Brass and Valerie MacFarlane will be performing music from the Last Night of the Proms in the grounds of St. Mark's School, Cold Ash. Come along and listen to the popular classics followed by a series of British patriotic pieces in the second half of the concert including Edward Elgar's Pomp and Circumstance & Rulr Britannia. Bring a picnic and chairs. A bar will be available.

Newbury Methodist Church, Newtown Road Cemetery and Snelsmore Common Fire Tower will be open in addition to the nine locations that were available to view last year, including Shaw House, St Nicolas Church and Bell Tower and Newbury Town Hall.

There will be Vintage Tractors & Steam Engines whilst Bradfield Young Farmers will be in the stocks in aid of McMillan Cancer Care & Berkshire Air Ambulance.

There will be a host of beers available from Greene King, The West Berkshire brewery and the Hogs Back brewery. There will be lots to entertain on Saturday 25th with various circus acts; stilt walkers and jugglers. Children can enjoy the bouncy castle, bouncy slide as well as petting the goats, chickens and rabbits. Come along in Caribbean fancy dress and enjoy the Caribbean themed BBQ.

Reading Phoenix Choir is a 50 strong mixed voice choir. It is considered one of the finest amateur choirs in the UK. It has members of all backgrounds and ages, with musical experience ranging from music degrees/diplomas to average sight readers, all sharing a love of choral music. Come along for an evening of largely unaccompanied singing in this beautiful venue in Upper Woolhampton with new musical director, David Crown.
