Mobile Library Services
Our mobile libraries bring the service to people who don't live near a branch library. These have a constantly changing collection of fiction and information books, including large print and audiobooks, and users can request specific titles or a selection of books on a particular subject. Our mobile libraries also serve readers who are housebound and unable to come to a library for themselves.
Please note: from 2nd August for at least two months we are operating a temporarily reduced service.
This is because one of our library drivers has recently moved to Switzerland. We are in the process of recruiting a replacement driver but it will be a while before the new person is ready to drive.
Our current list of
Mobile libraries: stops and times is available to view online or print.
Residential and Nursing Homes
If you live in a residential or nursing home, a member of library staff can visit your home with a selection of books and/or audiobooks on cassette or CD. Residents who are physically able to do so are encouraged to visit the mobile library when it visits the home. Our mobile libraries have lifts to provide easier access. But if you are unable to come to us, don't worry - we will do our best to come to you.
Housebound Readers
If you are housebound, unable to get to your local branch library or mobile service and have no-one to go for you, we can arrange for a volunteer to visit you at home, at regular intervals, with a small selection of library items. There is no charge for this service, except when a book is not held in any West Berkshire library. Please contact us for further details.
Volunteers Welcome!
We have a team of volunteers who enjoy visiting our housebound readers. All volunteers are interviewed by a member of staff and are 'police checked' before they join the team. We are always looking for more volunteers to help deliver books. If you have a few hours to spare and are interested in joining us, please contact us for further details.
