Nature Discovery Centre

Welcome to the Nature Discovery Centre in Thatcham.

The Discovery Centre

The Nature Discovery Centre has a wonderful lakeside setting. The visitor centre, with cafe, hands-on exhibits and a varied and ever changing calendar of activities provides an ideal base for a day out. Our fantastic adventure playgrounds, network of footpaths and wildlife offer many opportunities to enjoy the fresh air at any time of year. 

 We have an action packed programme of events planned for this autumn and winter and offer events for all the family.  From our wonderful Wildlife Explorer Days and our Recycled Art Workshops, to Bird Walks and Orienteering.  Download our events programme for more details (see downloads section on right hand side of page).

Inside the new Discovery CentreThe Lakeside Cafe is now under new management and offers a range of delicious sandwiches, paninis, soups and salads as well as homemade cakes and cream teas.  Visit Rosemary and her team and enjoy fantastic food in beautiful surroundings.

Events to look out for this winter February

Thursday 18th 11.30am and 2pm Make It LadyMake it Lady

Balancing parrots 11.30am

In this workshop the Make it Lady will uncover the amazing topic of gravity. Stand-by to travel from the centre of the earth to the weightlessness of space. Once the children have come back down again they can use all they have learnt to make a balancing parrot.

Kitchen Chemistry 2pm

You have never seen floating and sinking experiments like this before. Eggs, lemons, raisins and raspberries will reveal their inner mysteries. The Make it Lady will be asking for volunteers to help her with her experiments. Be prepared to get a bit wet. All experiments can be repeated at home. No special chemicals are required.
