South Newbury Children's Centre celebrates 2nd Anniversary

South Newbury Children's Centre, which is managed by West Berkshire Council, will be celebrating its second birthday on Saturday 13th March

Issued on 9 March 2010

To mark the occasion, a small party is being held for families with young children from 0-5 years old. It takes place from 11.00am until 2.00pm. There will be a mobile farm with animals for the children to pet; a bouncy castle; children's entertainer; face painting and various arts and craft activities with a nursery rhyme theme. Families taking part can dress up as a favourite nursery rhyme character if they wish.

The Children's Centre is based next to the Willows Primary School in Greenham and works in partnership with other agencies to offer information, support and services to parents and carers with children 0-5 years in the community.

A variety of daily activities take place at the Centre including 'Stay 'n Play' sessions, which promote child development and offer a chance for children and parents or carers to socialise in a friendly, safe environment. The Children's Centre also offers access to family support, health visitor 'drop in' and 'post-natal' weekly clinics and a midwifery service that offers appointments. The West Berkshire Toy Library also visits weekly to loan out toys and equipment to families.

Barbara Alexander, West Berkshire Executive Councillor for Children & Young People said: "Many families have benefited from the help and support offered at the South Newbury Children's Centre over the past two years. I hope everyone celebrating this anniversary will have a very enjoyable day."

West Berkshire Council runs the Children's Centre and it is funded by Surestart which is a government programme that aims to achieve better outcomes for children, parents and communities. There are 10 Children's Centres across West Berkshire.
