Hungerford footbridge plans to go on show
Plans for a new footbridge across the canal at Hungerford will now go on display at Hungerford Library from 6th-23rd April 2010
Issued on 5 March 2010
There will then be a public meeting to discuss the plans at Hungerford Town Hall (Corn Exchange) on 29th April 2010 starting at 8.00pm.
It is said that a wish to see a footbridge, to run alongside the historic vehicle crossing at Bridge Street, was first voiced as long as 70 years ago. Given the architectural importance of the road bridge, talk of an adjacent footbridge has been the subject of much interest for a long time. It is therefore of great importance that the bridge should be exactly right for the town. Councillors and officers from West Berkshire Council have now taken the project forward to a stage where proposals are almost ready to go on show.
Local people, anxious to see what the new bridge could look like, will have to wait until early April to view the scheme. Architects will by then have finished putting the final touches to the plans.
All are welcome to view the plans at Hungerford Library. There will be forms available to leave comments and suggestions. Opening times of the Library are Tuesdays and Fridays 9.30am to 7pm, Wednesdays 9.30am to 5pm, Saturdays 9.30am to 12.30pm.
The public meeting will provide an opportunity to discuss any suggestions. Again, all are welcome.
