Snow And Frost Damage To Local Roads

What is the Council doing to fix the roads after damage caused by the snow and frosts?

After any period of severe weather such as snow, frost or flooding the road network can be damaged. As a result the Councils Highways and Transport Service has put in place a number of actions to get the roads repaired as soon as possible. This includes:

The introduction of two dedicated 'Find & Fix' gangs who will drive the whole of the road network assessing for damage caused. They will then make safe any dangerous potholes. They will also record any section of the road that is in need of a more permanent patch repair.

Street Sweeping Teams from the Waste Service and Highways and Transport Service will be sweeping the roads in order to remove any deposits of grit. This will commence once the risk of further snow this Wednesday has passed.

Gully cleansing of urban gullies will commence once the sweeping operation has been completed.

In order to ensure we repair all the potholes and unblock any gullies the Council are actively encouraging the community to report these problems to Streetcare as soon as possible in order that emergency repairs can be actioned.
