World Fiction
West Berkshire Libraries stock a special collection of world fiction in foreign languages. This kept at Newbury Library but can be borrowed via any library in West Berkshire free of charge - just ask at your local library.
We borrow a proportion of the collection on a rotating basis from a specialist supplier, which means that every 4 months 100 books return to the supplier and are replaced by 100 new titles for you to read.
We have different types of books in the collection, including some bestsellers and some classics. We also have a selection of dual language books for children, where the story is told in English as well as another language.
It is possible to ask for new languages to be included in the collection. If you would like us to get books in a language that we do not currently stock, just ask at your local library or contact us by telephone or email.
The languages currently available in the world fiction collection are as follows:
For Adults:
Bengali, Chinese, French, German, Hungarian, Italian, Japanese, Polish, Portuguese, Russian, Spanish, Urdu.
For Children:
French, German, Hungarian, Polish, Russian, Spanish, Thai.
There is also a selection of dual language picture books for young children which include all of the above language.
