When schools are forced to close due to bad weather or other emergencies, headteachers have in place their own individual school arrangements to ensure that parents and carers are informed as soon as possible. If you are unaware of these arrangements for your school please discuss this directly with your school.
School closure information will be made available by headteachers through the school's normal channel of communication with parents and this usually includes local radio stations. Individual unforeseen closures which may occur for example due to heating or water failures will be dealt with locally by the school concerned and parents will be informed by the usual school's channels.
Local radio stations play an important part in communications between schools and parents under these unusual circumstances and especially adverse weather conditions. Schools will inform the local radio stations as soon as possible when a closure occurs or is imminent. For information please listen to your local radio station as schools are unable to take large numbers of phone calls directly, alternatively visit the radio station website for more information.
In cases of closure due to adverse weather please bear in mind that conditions may vary across the district which is why decisions are taken locally by each school.
Your local radio stations include;
