Cinema for Newbury

West Berkshire Council has announced that it has commenced talks with other parties interested in bringing a cinema to Newbury

Cinema

Commenting on the decision Graham Jones, Council Leader said "Despite several letters to the current owners of the Kennet Centre, we have received no assurances that they remain committed to constructing the cinema in Market Street that currently has planning permission.  We have done all that we can to bring this project to fruition but I am far from convinced they will deliver.  Their latest estimate that the project will commence on site in the Autumn seems impossible to deliver given the preliminary work and legal agreements that have yet to be signed."

He continued "the people of West Berkshire have now waited long enough for the owners of the Kennet Centre to start work! We therefore intend to meet with other interested parties over the next few weeks with a view to finding an alternative site on which a cinema can be built.  As far as the Council is concerned it remains a key element of the Newbury 2025 Vision and one which commands huge public support."
