The Tilehurst Learning Campus: A Project for the Future
The Tilehurst Learning Campus is designed to co-locate Denefield School and Brookfields School, together with a range of leisure and learning facilities for the whole community.
At West Berkshire Council we have been working to progress the Tilehurst Learning Campus, a project which will provide 21st century educational facilities for Denefield School and Brookfields School, along with a range of leisure and learning facilities that will benefit the wider community. In the past six months the second phase of the feasibility study into what is possible for the envisioned TLC Campus has been undertaken. We are now in the position where we have a number of options to develop but are waiting on the Government to inform us about the level and timescale of funding from the Building School's for the Future Programme (BSF). When we receive this information we will then be able to proceed.
In the meantime works have been carried out to maintain the fabric of the two schools. In line with the school's priorities, toilets at Denefield have been refurbished and a new 6th Form block is being put in place at a cost of £300,000. Other minor works have also been undertaken by the school in the last two years including the upgrading of lighting and air conditioning, as well as safety work to the windows. At Brookfields, the school has completed work to improve the energy efficiency of the buildings and has also embarked on a programme of replacing the windows. It is also planned to install a new modular classroom, which will be used by the school to provide training to teachers.
